Description
It’s not surprising that landscape was one of the favorite subjects of the early photographers, since, aside from the obvious slogan “capture the instant for eternity”, in the time of the first experimentation it meant exposing a silver plate for a rather long time, which required subjects that didn’t move.
The Alinari brothers – followed the trend of making printing postcards and the needs of the new Kingdom of Italy to catalogue the beauties of its territory – portrayed the Italy and Europe of their times.
These pictures tell us of places and monuments that may no longer exist or that have changed completely, offering us surprising points of view of the cities we live in today.

In the Museum we travel through depictions of fabulous (even fairy tale like) spaces which we sometimes find it hard to identify with cities we know today. The building where we are now was the subject in various epochs of photographs in which, although we can recognize the subject, the general atmosphere consisting of shapes and colors, contrasts and light is very different in every aget.
